Most of you know how important it is to keep the windshield warm and remove moisture from the break. But, be very careful when applying heat. Sudden temperature change is the most likely culprit when a rock chip cracks out on you. The moisture evaporator is the very best tool you can use to spot heat the windshield or remove moisture from the break, but it is very important that it is used properly.

When used to warm the windshield, the moisture evaporator should be moved in a circular pattern around the break, on the interior of the windshield, until the exterior of the windshield is 70-90 degrees.

When used to dry a chip, the moisture evaporator is to be placed directly over the damage for 20 seconds, no longer. If more heat is necessary to fully dry the damage, a second or third cycle can be used, but never leave the evaporator on the damage for more than 20 seconds at a time. If you do, you risk damaging the inner safety layer of the windshield or even causing the damage to spread. It is important to make sure the glass is warmed prior to drying the damage. Applying such intense heat to a cold windshield can cause the damage to spread.
