By the time you read this, I expect that State Farm will have already announced plans to discontinue its deductible waiver program for windshield repair. According to my sources, State Farm will begin by implementing changes in five states by mid July, with other states to follow as they work the bugs out of the program. Other insurance companies are sure to follow State Farm’s lead if this program is successful.

You are also no doubt aware of the proposed legislation in Texas and Maryland, following the examples of Massachusetts and Connecticut that would require windshield repair technicians to be licensed.

So what does this all mean? Do we run around shouting from the top of our lungs that the windshield repair world is coming to an end? Do we bury our head in the sand? Or do we take a step back, analyze the situation, and figure out how we can come out on top after the dust settles? I think I’ll see what’s behind door number three.

Any time it gets too easy to get into business or make money at a particular profession, something will change to make it more difficult. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but that’s the way it is, so why sugar coat it? This is called being in business folks.
As it gets more difficult to get into the windshield repair business and more difficult to market windshield repair services, a new breed of windshield repair technician will be born. This new breed will
be better educated, better trained, will have better equipment, and in the end, will make more money.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not the least bit happy about licensing, and down right upset about the possibility of losing the insurance deductible waiver. Rather than turn tail and run, I am going to do everything possible to roll with the punches and make sure that Delta Kits does a better job than our competitors. To make that happen, I have to make sure that Delta Kits customers do a better job than their competitors.

In my life, every time one door closes another one opens, and I don’t see this as any exception. Delta Kits is going to take this opportunity to make sure that our customers are the best equipped, best educated, most highly skilled, and highly motivated technicians in the windshield repair industry. I believe that by making that commitment, Delta Kits will not simply weather the storm, we will conquer the storm.

We have some big plans for you, so the question is; do you have what it takes to be one of the new breed?
