Last month in our Insurance Billing 101 article, we outlined what is involved in billing a windshield repair customer’s insurance company directly for your work. This month we’re going to explain ROLAGS® and how it relates to this process.
Let’s start by defining ROLAGS® and how it came to be. Developed jointly by the National Glass Association and the National Windshield Repair Association, the standard defines best practices and terminology for the windshield repair industry. This allows for consistent evaluation of damage while assisting the public in understanding the repair process.
Today processors of insurance claims use ROLAGS® terminology when you call them to initiate a covered repair. This simplifies the claims process and allows for accurate record keeping on your part.
Additionally, ROLAGS® outlines the limitations of windshield repair. This information is important and will help you to properly assess whether damaged glass can be repaired or if it should be replaced. This ability to give your customer a confident appraisal is an important aspect of their experience with your company and will end up saving you time and money in the long run as you will be able to focus on damage that can be repaired with a greater degree of certainty.
Delta Kits recommends that all technicians familiarize themselves with ROLAGS®. The document can be viewed on the NWRA website.
