In 2011, I slept in a comfortable bed every night, never missed a meal and had a hot shower every morning. That alone gives me reason to rejoice. I still have a job, a car and a roof over my head. For me the list of things to be thankful for are endless but for now I will stop there.
I sincerely hope that everyone reading this message has all the blessings mentioned above and understands just how fortunate they are. Most of the world is not so fortunate and Christmas is a great time (there is no bad time) to think about how we can all help change that.
I have experienced an interesting phenomenon in my life; finding that the more I give, the more I receive! Whether you call it Karma, paying it forward, or following God’s perfect plan, the idea seems to gain traction this time of the year. Whether it’s something simple like buying someone a cup of coffee or something much larger like providing food and shelter for a family, the effects are powerful to say the least.
You don’t need a lot of money or talent to do something kind for someone; even the small things make a difference. You also should not expect a dollar for dollar return on your investment, although that does sometimes happen. What you can expect are feelings of satisfaction, joy, peace and empowerment, all of which lead to an improvement in the quality of life. There is no better feeling than giving an anonymous gift; it’s absolutely exhilarating! I’m sure most of you have seen the movie, but if you have two and a half minutes to spare, watch this thought provoking clip from the movie Pay it Forward.
Recently a co-worker shared another video with me that really helped put me in the Christmas spirit. If you have another four minutes to spare, Kisses From Katie will help restore your faith in humanity.

Proverbs 19:17
He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done.

The Greatest Commandment
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
