What is the Subaru EyeSight camera technology?

Question:

What is the Subaru EyeSight camera technology, and how does it affect a repair of the vehicle’s windshield?

Answer:

The Subaru EyeSight is an option offered in the 2013 Subaru Legacy and Outback. It consists of two stereo cameras installed on the inside of the windshield. In short, the EyeSight is a system designed to detect and prevent accidents by scanning and recognizing possible hazards in front of the vehicle.

How does it influence a repair of the vehicle’s windshield? According to Subaru, “it is important to understand NO repairs can be made to the glass if the damage is in the Prohibited areas.” Further, “Damage and/or repairs in the prohibited area can interfere and possibly compromise proper operation of the system.” The “Prohibited area” is approx. 26” wide x 15” high, centered at the top of the windshield. It is important to note that the two camera lenses should be covered when cleaning the windshield (including removing bird droppings and pitch from trees).
